Taoiseach says reopening indoor hospitality to vaccinated people is about protecting people not discrimination

The Taoiseach has said that reopening indoor hospitality is not about discrimination but about protecting people.

Speaking this evening, Martin said that the Government received very specific advice from NPHET about the Delta variant and what would happen if it went through society and in particular unvaccinated people.

The Taoiseach went on to say that there is no doubt that the Delta variant rips through unvaccinated people and it is currently happening in many different societies and the Government doesn’t want that to happen here.

He also stated that its not about discrimination even though that seems to be the unfortunate outcome of such restrictions, but instead it’s about protecting people as Covid-19 is a very serious disease and not just the flu.

The Taoiseach added that Covid-19 is not just the flu and many unvaccinated people can get long Covid which is something that we shouldn’t wish on people.
