The seemingly fathomless pocket full of other people’s money keeps spewing cash on the Government’s behalf at an alarming rate, despite the austerity imposed on the man on the street.

Enda Kenny has seen fit to plunder this bottomless pocket to the tune of €50k a year for a new personal assistant, conveniently hired from his own hometown of Castlebar, Co. Mayo.

Fine Gael party stalwart Jack O’Donnell recently landed this cosy appointment as the Taoiseach’s personal ‘local media liaison’. He has been tasked with the somewhat challenging mission of restoring the boss’ fractured image in his hometown, and enhancing the public’s perception for Mr. Kenny ahead of the next election.

Mr. O’Donnell will pocket €50,204 a year for a role for which he is ’eminently qualified’, according to a Taoiseach’s spokesperson.

Mr. O’Donnell joins a cadre of ‘backroom advisors’ wholly funded by the taxpayer. The latest figures showed that this cabal of advisors costs us about €550,000 per year.
