TD calls for the hand over of ‘all relevant mobile devices to the Garda where any relevant deleted messages can be recreated & retrieved’ as Coveney claims he deleted message conversations with Leo Varadkar and Katherine Zappone

The Catherine Zappone scandal isn’t going away.
This week, Newstalk revealed that The Foreign Affairs Minister, Simon Coveney deleted message conversations with Leo Varadkar and Katherine Zappone as his phone had been hacked in the past.

Minister Coveney yesterday told the Oireachtas Foreign Affairs Committee that he deleted the texts for “storage reasons”; however, his spokesperson later clarified that he regularly clears his phone after previously being hacked.

Now Fianna Fail TD Timmy Dooley has jumped in on the scandal, tweeting, “For named individuals who “genuinely” wish to be open and transparent about this sorry mess – the path forward is to hand over all relevant mobile devices to the Gardai & or AG’s office where any relevant deleted messages can be recreated & retrieved”.

Timmy Dooley’s archived tweet can be viewed here.
