Teaching Council of Ireland deregisters teacher following allegations that sellotape was put across children’s mouths

The Teaching Council of Ireland has removed a teacher from its register after she was found guilty of professional misconduct following allegations that she placed Sellotape across the mouths of her students.

According to RTE News, the teacher who has become one of the first to be deregistered was found guilty after it was alleged that she sellotaped the mouths of two young girls back in 2012.

It is alleged that the teacher involved sellotaped the mouths of the girl after they refused to stop talking during a class.

The teacher who has not been named apparently told five girls to sellotape their mouths shut as punishment for their unruly behaviour.

However it is alleged that one of the students refused to do so and that the teacher decided to carry-out the act herself.

According to witness testimony which was heard last year a number of children were left upset and were crying after they were left with red marks on their mouths.

RTE News say the teacher who has been deregistered will be able to reapply to the council in 12 months time.
