Teenage boy gets charged over fatal car crash in Galway

A teenage boy appeared in Ballinasloe District Court on suspicion of causing a fatal car crash in April last year which killed two other teenagers, reports RTE.

A total of five charges have been brought against the youth, who cannot be identified due to his age. They all relate to an incident in Glengarraun, near Headford, Co Galway, which happened in the early hours of April 10 last year.

Two 14-year-olds – Lucas Joyce and Kirsty Bohan – died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash, reports RTE.

During a brief hearing at Ballinasloe Magistrates’ Court this afternoon, Judge Vincent Deane heard that the boy was charged with causing death by dangerous driving; dangerous driving causing serious injury; Unauthorized taking of vehicle; Driving without insurance and driving without a driving license.

Inspector Adrian Quinney told the court that the State had agreed to bail of €100 subject to a number of conditions, reports RTE.

These include good manners and living at one’s own address. The tribunal heard the boy voluntarily surrendered his passport.

Judge Dean remanded the youth in custody pending a hearing at Tuam District Court later this month, when a section 75 hearing under the Children’s Act is due, reports RTE.
