Colt Grey, the suspected gunman at the high school in Georgia, made his initial court appearance in a US state court. He is charged with murder in connection with the shooting spree that occurred on Wednesday and left nine people injured, reports RTE.

at front of Barrow County Superior Court Judge Currie Mingledorff, the 14-year-old, who was being detained without bond at the Gainesville Regional Youth Detention Centre, did not enter a plea.

The court informed Mr. Grey that he was facing four charges of felony murder and that, should a jury find him guilty, he may spend the rest of his life in jail, reports RTE.

He had earlier warned Mr. Grey that he may get the death sentence, but he subsequently acknowledged his mistake and informed the young person that, as he is under the age of eighteen, he is not eligible for the death penalty.

“Colin Gray knowingly allowed his son, Colt Gray, to possess a gun. Due to the active investigation, we’re unable to release further details,” the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.

Mr. Grey was restrained while he sat behind his attorney and nodded in response to many questions posed by the court, reports RTE.

According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, his 54-year-old father Colin Grey is also accused with eight charges of child abuse, two counts of second-degree murder, and four counts of involuntary manslaughter.

He was supposed to go into court not too long after his son.

Colt Grey is accused of carrying out the attack at Apalachee High School, which resulted in the deaths of two instructors and two 14-year-old pupils, using a semi-automatic rifle known as a “AR platform-style weapon,” according to Georgia state and Barrow County authorities, reports RTE.

Shortly after the incident, he was taken into custody by two sheriff’s officers who were stationed at the school.

Since students started back at the end of the summer, investigators have not yet provided an explanation for the first mass shooting on a US school campus.

The massacre in Winder, an 18,000-person community located approximately 80 km northeast of Atlanta, reignited the national conversation about gun control as well as the accompanying outpouring of grief in a nation where these kinds of acts happen sometimes, reports RTE.
