Teenager viciously beaten in Belfast hammer attack

The PSNI have confirmed that a 17-year-old youth has been viciously attacked and beaten with a hammer in Belfast city centre last night.

Detective Inspector Michelle Griffin made a statement regarding the horrific attack saying: “The teenager was walking along Great Victoria Street close to the junction with Ventry Street just before 6pm when a car with a number of men on board pulled up alongside him. “These men exited the car and began to assault the victim, knocking him to the ground. It’s believed a hammer of some description may have been used to strike him on the back.” It is believed that the attackers fled in a car and the teenager was taken to hospital. His injuries are not believed to be serious.

The PSNI also say that detectives are currently investigating a motive for the assault and have appealed for people who were in the area at the time to come forward with any information Anyone with information is asked to contact CID at Musgrave Street PSNI station on 101.
