A teenager who choked and slashed a young woman in south Dublin has been resentenced due to the ‘undue leniency’ of his first sentence.
According to RTE, the 17-yr-old choked Stephanie Ng to unconsciousness before slashing her with a knife in a savage attack along Dun Laoghaire’s seaside in December 2017. He had lured his victim using the social media app, Whisper.
RTE reports that in his original sentence the youth, who cannot be named as he is a minor, was given an eleven-year sentence with a review after five. Under the new ruling, he will not be released until serving at least seven years as he is still considered a ‘high risk’.
