Teenager who murdered Lorna Woodnutt before posting video on Snapchat sentenced to life in detention

The adolescent boy who killed 51-year-old Lorna Woodnutt by beating her with a lump hammer and a sledgehammer and then sharing the footage on Snapchat has been sentenced to life in jail with the possibility of release after 15 years, reports Breaking News.

During the child’s sentence hearing in July of last year, the Central Criminal Court was informed that the boy—who is under the age of 18 and so cannot be identified under the Children’s Act—sent a selfie of the victim’s faceless corpse covered in blood.

Judge Paul McDermott sentenced Ms. Woodnutt on Thursday, stating that the youngster had assaulted her repeatedly with a “extraordinary level of brutality and viciousness,” reports Breaking News.

He stated the assailant had utilised weapons and had the desire and motivation to inflict horrible hurt.

The niece of the victim earlier testified in court about how she learnt her aunt had been brutally killed after seeing something that “looked like something a terrorist would make.”

In order to get police to “come,” the kid said investigators he had shot and shared the video on Snapchat with “everyone in his contacts,” which the court was informed was “a three-figure number,” reports Breaking News.

The court was informed that the youngster removed the tape when the gardaí arrived, after those people had access to it for thirty minutes.

During the sentencing hearing, the court was also informed that the defendant, who is currently 17 years old but whose identity is unknown due to his status as a juvenile, was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder at the age of 18 months and that his violent behaviour had increased, reports Breaking News.
