Temporary prohibition all but in enforced in Galway City as number of Supermarkets and Off Licences agree not to sell alcohol before 3pm tomorrow

A temporary prohibition will all be but enforced in the city of Galway tomorrow afternoon as Off licences and supermarkets across the city have made an agreement with the Gardaí not to sell alcohol before 3pm.

The latest move which will curb extensive St Patricks day drinking was enforced with the hope that it will help prevent anti-social behaviour in the city. It is understood supermarkets and off licences in the city have openly agreed to the conditions in order to allow the cities St Patricks day parade to finish without disruption.

Gardaí say a vast majority of businesses who have entered the arrangement are not under any legal obligation to enforce, but they have signed up of their own accord.
