A three-year-old child is among ten people who had to be treated for mild hypothermia after climbing Croagh Patrick in poor weather conditions, despite warnings to keep off the mountain.
Hundreds of people gathered at the foot of the mountain yesterday for the annual “Reek Sunday” climb, ignoring warnings about treacherous weather conditions at the site. The pilmigrage climb had actually been officially cancelled, but a few people went ahead anyway.
Heavy rain and gusting winds made the mountain dangerous indeed, and ten people had to be rescued and treated for hypothermia.
