Tesco issues urgent recall notice over chicken goujons due to Salmonella fears

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) has confirmed an urgent recall of batches of Tesco’s popular chicken product due to salmonella concerns.

The FSAI issued a press release yesterday confirming that two batches of Tesco Southern Fried Chicken Goujons have been recalled due to the potential presence of Salmonella, reports The Mirror.

The frozen goujons concerned are supplied in 360 g packs, with a best before date of 31/05/2024 and batch codes 23122 and 23123. The country of origin is Poland.

The FSAI asked retailers to withdraw the affected goods from sale and post recall notices to customers at the point of sale, reports The Mirror.

In the meantime, consumers are advised to avoid consuming the affected batches, but the FSAI reassures those who have already consumed the product that cooking should eliminate the risk.

Tesco branches will post recall notices at points of sale, reports The Mirror.

Salmonella usually causes symptoms in infected people after 12 to 36 hours, but this can be between six and 72 hours.

The most common symptom of salmonella is diarrhea, which can sometimes be bloody. Other symptoms of salmonella include fever, headache and abdominal cramps.

It usually takes between four and seven days.

Sometimes the diarrhea is severe enough to require hospital treatment.

The elderly, infants and immunocompromised people are more likely to have serious illnesses.
