Workers at 70 Tesco stores across the country have announced plans to stage industrial action from 7am on Monday May 16.
The strike is the workers’ response to the unilateral action taken by the company in the implementation of pay cuts and employment changes for up to 300 of their staff.
Mandate general secretary John Douglas said “The workers in Tesco decided that they would vote for industrial action,”
“We have a mandate for industrial action. We’ve served notice on the company that if they attack our members on the 16th of May, that our members will be on strike right across this country.”
It is understood that Tesco have now offered a voluntary redundancy scheme, and any pay reductions have been deferred until May 16.
