Tesla driver gets ordered to pay compensation over deadly autopilot crash

A Tesla driver will pay more than $23,000 (£18,000) in compensation over the deaths of two people in a 2019 car crash in a Los Angeles suburb, reports Breaking News.

The move was announced the same day the automaker recalled nearly all vehicles sold in the United States.

Wednesday’s hearing concluded a case that appears to be the first time in the United States that prosecutors have brought criminal charges against a driver who used a partially automated driving system, reports Breaking News.

It was one of the fatal crashes investigated by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and leading to this week’s recall.

The recall affects more than two million Tesla vehicles and will update software and repair a faulty system designed to ensure drivers pay attention when using Autopilot, reports Breaking News.
