
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) has revealed that the median income of individuals who bought a home in 2024 exceeded €84,000, reports Breaking News.
According to CSO data, the average income of those purchasing residential properties stood at €84,400—an increase from €80,100 in 2023 and €75,600 in 2022.
Slightly more than 60 per cent of homes bought in 2024 were purchased by joint buyers, reports Breaking News.
There were 48,780 homes bought in 2024, marking a decrease from 50,230 in 2023 and 50,030 in 2022.
Kildare recorded the sharpest decline in property sales, falling by 21 per cent, while Wicklow experienced a 19 per cent increase.
Among joint buyers in 2024, Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown recorded the highest income at €157,100. Monaghan had the lowest, at €77,900, reports Breaking News.
The Local Electoral Area (LEA) with the highest median property price was Pembroke, Dublin City, with a figure of €820,000.
Pembroke also had the highest median price for homes bought by joint purchasers, at €940,000. For single buyers, Stillorgan in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown topped the list, with a median of €687,500.
Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown also had the highest overall median property price at €660,000, while Longford had the lowest at €182,200, reports Breaking News.
In terms of annual price increases, Sligo led the counties in 2024 with a 26 per cent jump in median purchase price.
Limerick followed with a 17 per cent rise, and Westmeath came next with a 16 per cent increase, reports Breaking News.
Home buyers in South Dublin were the youngest on average in 2024, with a median age of 37, while Kerry had the oldest average at 45.
Belmullet in Mayo had the highest median age among Local Electoral Areas, at 54. About 11 per cent of buyers were aged 60 or older, reports Breaking News.
Nearly one in three property buyers in 2024 were aged 35 or younger. For those under 35, the median income was €86,400.
In 2022, eight per cent of home buyers counted in Census 2022 had previously been living with their parents, reports Breaking News.
