The ban on alcohol being sold on Good Friday has been lifted, but many people think pubs should be remain shut for the day

Alcohol will be sold for the first time in 90 years on Good Friday this year, as the law banning the sale of alcoholic drinks on that date has been scrapped in the Dáil.

The law had been a bone of contention for some time with many people believing it should remain a day for pubs to remain shut, along with Christmas Day.

Publicans have welcomed the potential boost to their income.
