The boy’s father and partner charged with murdering 4-yr-old Mason O’Connell Conway in Limerick in 2021

The father of a 4-yr-old boy and his partner appeared in Limerick Magistrates Court over the violent death of Mason O’Connell Conway at his Limerick home last year.

They are also accused of child cruelty charges.

Four-year-old Mason O’Connell Conway was seriously injured at his home in Rathbane in Limerick in March last year. He died at Temple Street Children’s Hospital on March 16, three days after being transferred there for treatment for a traumatic brain injury, reports RTE.

After a lengthy investigation by Garda, the boy’s father and partner went on trial today in connection with his violent death.

According to the national broadcaster, Tegan McGhee, in her 20s and homeless, is charged with murdering the toddler in violation of common law on March 16, 2021.

She was also charged with child cruelty close to when the boy died, in violation of the Children’s Act.

RTE reports that Limerick District Court heard he did not contest the charges last night. She has been taken into custody to appear at Limerick District Court via video link on Tuesday, October 11.

The boy’s father, John Paul O’Connell, 33, an associate of Ms McGee, with an address in Murroe in Limerick, is charged with helping her as a felon and carrying two counts of child abuse and one count of endangering a child Data before last March 16th. Year, reports the national broadcaster.

He will appear in court again on November 3rd.
