The calm after the storm: Wild winds to ease down over the next two days

Ireland has been severely battered by gale force winds over the last 72 hours, with western and north-western shores bearing the brunt of the attack. Heavy rains have also blighted the country, as Ireland felt the tail end of hurricane Abigail.

The wild weather will ease down over the next couple of days, however, with unsettled but calmer weather predominant for the rest of the week.

Another band of heavy rain will cross the country on Thursday, with temperatures dipping as low as 2C after nightfall.

Friday will be a brighter day but with plenty showers around, while the weekend is expected to be wet but rather mild, with temperatures reaching 15C in places.
