According to Al Arabiya, rape victims in Pakistan will be forced to pay Rs25,000 (€130) for a medical exam.
The proposed plan to charge for medical examinations was put forward by the Khyber Medical College University in Pakistan’s Peshawar. As the Police Department has limited financial resources, it is believed that the cost of examinations will be billed to the victims.
Human rights activist Tamur Kamal said: “When you go to police station, they often ask you to pay for the diesel for police vehicles. Now they will ask the general public to pay the charges of autopsy and even medical examination of rape victims. So the decision is not a welcome one”.
