The death has occurred of British actor Kenny Baker, who portrayed the iconic droid R2-D2 in the Star Wars series.
Though he never spoke a word in the movies, as the droid only communicated through beeps and other sound cues, Baker infused the lovable robot with an unique character through his performance.
The actor had suffered ill health for the last two years, and passed away peacefully yesterday, just 11 days shy of his 82nd birthday.
Tributes have been pouring in for him, with fans and fellow actors worlwide expressing their sympathies and condolences.
