It is the deepest shame and indictment for this -still holidaying- Government that the number of homeless people in Ireland has surpassed 8,000 for the first time ever.
The grim statistic includes a full 36% of children without a place to call home.
Official statistics show that there were 1,429 families without homes in July, an increase of almost 5% from the previous month.
The total number of homeless people in Ireland is now 8,160, including 2,970 children.
