The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission investigating fatal Dublin crash

The Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission is investigating a fatal car crash in Dublin after the incident was referred to it by gardaí.

Sineád Maguire (43) with an address of  Bayview Avenue in Dublin 3 has died following an incident in which the car she was travelling crashed into a pole at Fairview at the junction of Malahide Road at 1.50am this morning. A 26-year-old driver also believed to have been involved in the incident, has been taken to Beaumont Hospital where his condition is understood to be critical.

A man who is believed to be in his early 20’s who was also in the car is understood to be in a stable condition in St James’s Hospital Dublin.

Sources have confirmed that the Gardaí had been following the vehicle before the crash. Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to contact Clontarf Garda Station at 01-6664800, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800-666-111 or any garda station.

Several Roads in the area, including the Clontarf Road to Howth Road junction reopened to traffic this afternoon. They had been closed this morning to allow gardaí carry out an examination of the scene.
