In a confrontational television interview, Democratic presidential contender Kamala Harris defended the Biden administration’s approach to illegal immigration and blamed Republicans for not passing a border security measure, reports RTE.
Ms. Harris also defended President Joe Biden’s mental health, her tenure as his vice president, and her prior support of gender-affirming surgery for transgender prisoners during her grilling by presenter Bret Baier on Fox News.
Despite her obvious frustration and the fact that she and Mr. Baier were constantly talking over each other, Ms. Harris sent her message for the election on November 5th to a conservative audience that may not normally hear it, reports RTE.
She was asked to answer to a mother who testified in Congress about the death of her daughter at the hands of an illegal immigrant in the United States and to justify the administration’s early decision to reverse parts of Republican competitor Donald Trump’s harsh border policies during his time as president.
Despite research showing that immigrants commit crimes at lower rates than other people, Mr. Trump and Republicans have asserted that immigrants are contributing to violent crime in the US.
“Let me be very clear, my presidency will not be a continuation of Joe Biden’s presidency,” Ms. Harris said when asked about her recent statement that there was “not a thing” she would alter about the Biden administration’s policies, reports RTE.
In order to address the housing issue and grow small enterprises, she promised to introduce fresh ideas from Republicans and business executives.
Before withdrawing from the race in July, Ms. Harris was an outspoken advocate of Mr. Biden when he was being questioned about his mental health following a catastrophic debate with Mr. Trump in June. She was questioned about the claims.
She questioned Mr. Trump’s suitability for the job and asserted that Mr. Biden had the “experience” and “judgement” to be president. “Donald Trump is on the ballot, and Joe Biden is not,” Ms. Harris stated, reports RTE.
She was questioned about her views on the use of public funding for transgender convicts, particularly those without documentation, to have gender-affirming surgery. Millions of dollars have been spent by Mr. Trump on advertisements in battleground states.
“I will follow the law,” Ms Harris said, noting that the US Bureau of Prisons provided gender-affirming treatments under Mr Trump. She accused him of “throwing stones when you live in a glass house,” reports RTE.
