An architect accused of killing at least three women and dumping their bodies in a remote coastal area near Gilgo Beach, Long Island, appeared in court on Tuesday, reports Breaking News.
Rex Heuerman, 59, is charged with the murders of Melissa Barthelemy, Megan Waterman and Amber Lynn Costello, who went missing in 2009 and 2010. Prosecutors say he is also a suspect in the murder of a fourth woman, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, who went missing in 2007.
All of the women were prostitutes whose remains were discovered side by side on a barrier island off the south coast of Long Island.
Suffolk County prosecutors said during a brief court hearing that they gave Heuermann’s attorney at least eight terabytes of material – the equivalent of about 2,500 pages of files, including nearly 100 hours of surveillance video recorded outside Heuermann’s home and office prior to his July 13 arrest.
District Attorney Ray Tierney said that was a fraction of the evidence gathered since the bodies of four women were found buried along a remote beach highway in 2010 and 2011.
He said more evidence would be introduced gradually as part of the discovery phase.

Investigators spent nearly two weeks combing Heuerman’s home in Massapequa Park where the remains were found.
The search included excavating backyards, demolishing the porch and greenhouse, and removing many of the home’s furnishings for testing. Heuerman’s wife, Asa Ellerup, told the New York Post that the search left the house in ruins, with items piled high, parts of her bathtub severed and furniture broken.
“My couch was completely shredded. I don’t even know if there’s any parts to the couch,” said Ms Ellerup, reports Breaking News.
