The new automated system which is being introduced as the Department of Transport step up their road safety initiative, will reportedly act the same way as a speed gun.
Explaining how the equipment works AA’s Conor Faughnan, told reporters: “Essentially what will happen is every time you pass a Garda car, the Garda car’s onboard camera will read your registration number, immediately tell the guard if that car is insured and who is insured to drive it.”
It is hoped the new system will effectively cut down on the number of insured drivers currently on Irish roads.
