The three stooges strike again – Fuel prices rise 4% following rise in excise duty

Fuel prices were 4% higher than the previous month following the increase in excise duty on petrol and diesel oil, reports RTE.

New figures from AA Ireland show that the average price of petrol is now €1.65 and the average price of diesel is €1.53.

Duty on gasoline rose by 6 cents per liter and diesel by 5 cents per liter on June 1, while gasoline prices rose by an average of 8 cents per liter and diesel by 6 cents per liter.

“We did know that petrol and diesel prices were set to increase and this month’s increases are broadly in line with what was predicted, with just a slight increase compared to what we had predicted, with a 4.8% increase on petrol and 4.3% increase on diesel,” said Paddy Comyn, Head of Communications at AA Ireland, reports RTE.

“The price of a barrel of oil has remained quite stable over the past 30 days, so we haven’t seen too much fluctuation in pricing at the pumps,” he added, reports RTE.

After the increase from 1 June, from 1 September these rates will increase by PLN 0.7 for petrol and PLN 0.5 for diesel.

The government will fully reinstate the rates from October 31 with a final increase of 8 cents for petrol and 6 cents for diesel.
