Two friends who died after encountering difficulties while swimming in sunny weather off the coast of Co Donegal have been named.

Emmanuel Famiola and Matt Siband lost their lives following a tragic incident near Ned’s Point off Buncrana at approximately 4pm on Saturday, reports breakingnews.ie. A third teenager managed to swim to shore and is recovering at Letterkenny University Hospital, according to breakingnews.ie.
Local reports cited by breakingnews.ie indicate the group was attempting to retrieve a football from the sea when all three got into difficulty. A large-scale search and rescue operation was launched after a passerby noticed the teenagers, aged 16 to 19, struggling, reports Breaking News.

Mr. Famiola was rescued from the sea shortly after the incident but passed away overnight at Letterkenny University Hospital, according to breakingnews.ie. The body of Mr. Siband was recovered by the Greencastle Coastguard between Ned’s Point and Fahan around 9pm on Saturday, reports Breaking News.

Both young men had relocated to Ireland from overseas with their families and were students at local secondary schools in Buncrana.

Matt, whose family is originally from Zimbabwe, attended Crana College, while Emmanuel, whose family is from Nigeria, was a student at Scoil Mhuire, reports Breaking News.

A spokesperson for the Donegal Education Training Board told breakingnews.ie that the communities of Crana College and Scoil Mhuire, including students, staff, Boards of Management, and parents, are devastated by the tragic events.
