The British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has put his foot down after two strains of the new omicron variant were detected in the UK on Saturday.
There are new rules for residents in Ireland intending to travel to the UK in the wake of the latest coronavirus strain.
Anyone arriving in the UK will now have to take a PCR test on the second day and self-isolate until they get a negative result.
Also, face masks will now again be mandatory on public transport and shops.
