The world renowned American evangelist Billy Graham has died at his mountain home in North Carolina at the age of 99.
The preacher was known as “America’s Pastor” and was active for over 60 years on what he called his “Crusades” spreading his message of Christian revivalism.
Graham counselled 12 U.S Presidents would often lead the country in times of mourning after tragic events such as the 9/11 attacks.
In his later years Graham downplayed Christian denominational differences that had once been a source of serious divisions in American society. Following the election of Catholic John F Kennedy to the presidency, Graham remarked that religious prejudice in the U.S ‘may not be as great as many feared’
Tributes have been paid to Graham from across the political spectrum in the U.S including President Donald Trump.
