The leader of the World Health Organization has emphasized the importance of adequately preparing for future pandemics, acknowledging the three years of hardship caused by Covid-19, reports RTE.
In his annual address, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that 2023 had served as a crucial turning point in addressing global health challenges, although it had also resulted in significant and needless suffering.
Dr Tedros stressed the need for increased support for Gaza and called on countries to establish a comprehensive accord to address the deficiencies in pandemic preparedness that were exposed during the current crisis, reports RTE.
Dr Tedros officially declared the end of the international public health emergency caused by Covid-19 in May.
“This marked a turning point for the world following three years of crisis, pain and loss for people everywhere,” he recalled in a video message, reports RTE.
