“Most of the current cases have presented with mild disease symptoms, and for the broader population, the likelihood of spread is very low,” RTE reports that Andrea Ammon, director of the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), in a statement released to the press.

“However, the likelihood of further spread of the virus through close contact, for example during sexual activities among persons with multiple sexual partners, is considered to be high,” she said

As of May 21, the World Health Organization has received reports of 92 laboratory-confirmed and 28 suspected cases of monkeypox from 12 countries where the disease is not endemic, including several European countries, US states, Australia and Canada.
