In what many people on social media are calling a completely snide, disgraceful and grabbing move – the government has been accused of using the tragic deaths of four people who’ve lost their lives on the roads over the past week.
It’s not yet known whether it’s merely a coincidence or whether the government and the RSA are being opportunistic.
Either way, fines for using your phone when driving has gone up to €120. Speeding fines double to €160 and not wearing your seatbelt will see fines of €120.
Many people argue that the fines are not a deterrent but rather a tax collecting method for the government.
