Thousands expected to attend centenary celebrations across Ireland

centenary

As celebrations to mark the 1916 rising get underway, thousands of people are expected to attend events across the country.

The President and the caretaker Taoiseach will take part in a ceremony outside the GPO in Dublin later today.

There will also be a parade across St. Stephen’s Green this morning, attended by military personnel, as well as members of the emergency services.

It will start at St Stephens’ Green and then make its way through the city and finishing outside the GPO.

An army officer will read the proclamation, and afterwards the President will lay a wreath to remember those who died in the fighting.
