Thousands of Irish people are now eligible for €2,000 grant to be paid at start of June

Thousands of people across Ireland who qualify are expected to receive a €2,000 grant during the first week of next month, reports The Mirror.

The Carer’s Support Grant, which provides key financial aid to many carers across the country, will be issued on the first Thursday of June—June 5.

Here’s everything you need to know, including details on eligibility, according to RSVP Live, reports The Mirror.

Who is eligible for the Carer’s Support Grant?

This grant is automatically paid to those receiving any of the following payments on the first Thursday in June:

  • Carer’s Allowance (full or half-rate)
  • Carer’s Benefit
  • Domiciliary Care Allowance

It’s worth noting that the Carer’s Support Grant is not subject to a means test. So even if you’re not getting one of these listed payments, you might still qualify for the grant.

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be 16 years of age or older
  • Normally live in Ireland
  • Provide full-time care to someone
  • Have been providing care for at least six months (which must include the first Thursday of June)
  • Either live with the person you’re caring for, or meet specific criteria (for example, the person should be able to contact you quickly and directly)

During this six-month care period, you must not:

  • Work over 18.5 hours a week (whether employed or self-employed)
  • Take part in a training or education programme for more than 18.5 hours per week
  • Receive Jobseeker’s Allowance or Jobseeker’s Benefit
  • Sign on for credited social insurance contributions
  • Reside in a hospital, nursing home, or similar facility

If the child or baby you’re caring for is in hospital or another medical facility, you may still be entitled to the Carer’s Support Grant. To be eligible, your child must qualify for Domiciliary Care Allowance.

Caring for more than one person?

If you are looking after more than one individual, you are entitled to a separate grant for each person you care for, reports The Mirror.

Grant amount

In 2025, the value of the Carer’s Support Grant will be €2,000, and it is scheduled to be paid on June 5, 2025, reports The Mirror.

Last year, the grant was €1,850.

How to receive the grant

If you are already getting Carer’s Allowance, Carer’s Benefit, or Domiciliary Care Allowance, you do not need to apply—the Carer’s Support Grant will be issued to you automatically in June, reports The Mirror.
