Thousands of Roscommon residents able to drink tap water again

Some 11,300 people from the Roscommon area have seen their boil water notices finally lifted, after months and years of being unable to drink water from the taps due to contamination.

The HSE has confirmed that residents in Killeglan and Castlerea are now able to consume water again, after carrying out inspections.

Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly was quick to point out that Irish Water was largely responsible for the development, and that it would not have been possible to lift the boil water notice without the quango’s intervention.

Some people in the affected areas were unable to drink tap water since 2009.
