Around 25,000 pilgrims are today climbing up Croagh Patrick in Co. Mayo, as part of the Reek Sunday pilgrimage tradition.
Authorities are advising all those penitents to exercise caution, particularly those who walk barefoot.
The event was cancelled last year due to adverse weather conditions.
