Gardai have arrested three men after what’s believed to be explosives were discovered in two cars in Co Meath.
The three men were arrested after an ongoing investigation into dissident republican activities in the border and midlands region by members of the Garda Special Detective Unit, and the Crime and Security Branch. It is understood that the cars were searched and the army bomb squad was called in. Gardai say they arrested two men, aged 42 and 49, were taken to Drogheda Garda station.
Meanwhile Gardai conducted a follow up search of a house in Mullingar were a 48-year-old man was detained and taken to Tullamore Garda station. All three are understood to be held under Section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act.
