Three policemen in Paris arrested a week ago for beating a black music producer will remain in custody for the time being, Paris prosecutor Rémy Heitz has said.
Mr. Heitz told a press conference that the judicial authorities wanted to make sure that the three were not in contact with each other and that they could not pressure the witnesses.
Producer Michel Zecler’s 15-minute beating was recorded on CCTV and widely shared on social media. This sparked an uproar in both domestic and foreign press and led to protests against police violence across the country on Friday and Saturday with more planned for the coming weekend.
