Gardai in Co Louth say they have arrested three men this morning after an armed robbery took place at a post office in Clogherhead.

It is understood that the armed raid happened at approximately 11.45am this morning when three masked men entered the post office, one of which was armed with a sawn-off shotgun. The armed men proceeded to threaten staff and demanded a large amount of money.

It is then believed that the three men fled the post office with a large amount of money, but they were quickly confronted by gardaí who then arrested the men after a struggle occurred. Gardai say a 25-year-old man was arrested by officers who are attached to the Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau.

Two other men (aged 24 and 36 years respectively) were also arrested by gardai from Clogherhead and Drogheda .

The three men are currently being detained at Dundalk and Drogheda Garda stations under the provisions of section 30 of the Offences Against the State Act 1939 as amended.
