A 14-yr-old boy accused of attacking an American tourist who was hospitalized after an attack in central Dublin has been detained pending a bail order from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), reports The Mirror.

Two other boys have also been accused of attacking the innocent tourist.

New Yorker Stephen Termini, 57, was attacked last week on the corner of Store Street and Talbot Street north of downtown.

Mr Termini, an artist and musician, remains in a serious but stable condition at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin.

The boy, who cannot be identified because he is a minor, was arrested over the weekend and released on bail after a special court hearing on Sunday.

He is charged with causing harm to Mr Termini at Store Street, Dublin 1 on 19 July, contrary to Section 3 of the Offenses Against the Person Act that do not result in death.

He has yet to indicate a plea.

The teenager appeared yesterday/today before the Chief Justice of the District Court, Judge Paul Kelly, at Dublin Children’s Court (TUR). He was with his father and did not go to court.

Garda Sergeant John Brady, from Store Street Station, told the court that instructions from the DPP had not yet been received and added that the teen was only charged on Sunday.

Defence attorney Roisin O’Mara confirmed that Sergeant Brady had sought probation, reports The Mirror.

After pleading for the defence, he warned the media that there were general reporting restrictions under the Children’s Act.

The legislation states, “No report shall be published or included in a broadcast which reveals the name, address or school of any child concerned in the proceedings or includes any particulars likely to lead to the identification of any child concerned in the proceeding,” reports The Mirror.
