Thug in Dublin jailed for 12 years over rape and abuse of teenage girl

One “very vulnerable teenager” was the victim of “a deliberate and calculated campaign” of rape and sexual abuse by a Dublin man who was sentenced to 12 years in prison, reports RTE.

Following a Central Criminal Court trial in December of last year, Daniel Martin, 47, formerly of Old County Road, Crumlin, was found guilty on 11 charges of sexually abusing and exploiting a child on dates in 2019 and 2020.

At the time, the girl was between the ages of 15 and 16.

In 2019, Martin was found guilty on one count of enabling a minor to see pornography about a second adolescent girl, who was in the 14–15 age range, reports RTE.

Martin was attacked in the dock during a prior hearing in what was described as a “serious breach of security” when the prosecuting garda was testifying. Regarding that event, two men are presently in court.

Judge Paul Burns sentenced Martin today, stating that his offences constituted “a deliberate and calculated campaign” against a “very vulnerable teenager” in which he gave the girl drink and narcotics. Additionally, he stated that “threats, degradation, and humiliation all featured” in the incident.

According to him, the acts happened “over a protracted period of time” and constituted “a grave breach of trust,” reports RTE.
