Space agency NASA has announced plans to establish a permanent colony on the Moon by the year 2028.
Humans first landed on Earth’s satellite back in 1969, marking a historic landmark for space exploration. Technology limitations back then meant that astronauts could not remain on the Moon for long.
But science and technology have now evolved to the point where NASA feels confident that a permanent base can be established within the next decade.
US President Donald Trump is said to be enthusiastic about the idea, and also backs a long-term project of sending a manned mission to Mars by the 2030s.
