In light of the Bataclan attacks, a story emerged about a hero of a Cork man who selflessly protected his girlfriend from the attackers. One month on, they’re happily engaged.

David Nolan brought Katie Healy to Paris to celebrate her birthday and let her see and do everything that she’d dreamed of in the beautiful city. Unfortunately, the couple were among the hostages that weekend at an Eagles of Death Metal concert in the Bataclan where 89 were killed.

The couple survived together, with David suffering injuries that are still in the recovery process. Despite this, behave become stronger than ever, with Katie taking to Twitter to announce their engagement.

She posted a selfie of herself wearing a beautiful sparkler with the caption: “This old thing?” before going on to explain: “Have I mentioned David proposed? We’re engaged. We’re getting married, no big deal. AGH.”

Recalling the reality of the attacks, Katie said: “David decided it would be a grand romantic gesture to bring me to Paris for my birthday, take me to the places I wanted to go.

“The whole time, David and I were reassuring each other. “I was saying to stay down, and that I loved him. “He was telling me that he loved me. “What do you say? Besides ‘I love you’, ‘stay down’, ‘stay calm’, ‘stay down’, ‘don’t move’.”

True love conquers all.
