Pubs and restaurants in Tokyo, a city of over 37 million inhabitants have been banned by the Japanese Government from serving any alcohol to it’s customers.
The hope is that the alcohol restrictions will curb the spread go coronavirus as a state of emergency continues in the vast city.
Restauranteurs are facing extinction reports the Guardian and there seems to be no end to the emergency measures and constant wave of new outbreaks.
Restaurants that switch to serving only soft drinks must close at 8pm. The government is offering daily subsidies of between ¥40,000 (€300) and ¥200,000 (€1500) depending on the establishment’s size, along with the threat of a ¥300,000 (€2250) fine for noncompliance.
