Tourists coming to Ireland already pay enough without adding a ‘tourist tax’, say hotel managers

According to the Irish Hotels Federation, tourists already pay enough without the tourist tax, reports Breaking News.

According to earlier estimates by Dublin City Council, a charge in the capital might generate €12 million annually.

As part of its efforts to pass legislation enabling councils to impose the levy, the Fingal County Council has written to local authorities, reports Breaking News.

Paul Gallagher, the chief executive of the Irish Hotels Federation, asserted that politicians easily target visitors.

Speaking on Newstalk, Gallagher said: “At the moment, 29 cent of every euro that a visitor spends in Ireland in hospitality services, or in taxis, or in whatever other consumption that they have, is returned directly to the State. They already pay a phenomenal amount of money,” reports Breaking News.
