Traffic over the Northern Ireland border on the rise since Brexit vote

A new report has revealed that a huge increase in the amount of traffic heading towards Northern Ireland this past year, particularly on weekends.

In the months before and following the Brexit referendum on June 23rd, the amount of shoppers heading north was up 9% as they sought out bargains.

The number peaked at weekends.

According to analysts Goodbody, the traffic level was at its highest between 10pm and 11pm on Saturday mornings, and again in the opposite direction between 6pm and 7pm on Sunday evenings – suggesting many two-day weekend trips.

The news comes as the Sterling surged to a four-week high on Thursday, after the High Court made the ruling that the British Government need the parliament’s approval before exiting the EU.

Polls made by the Sunday Business Post showed that one in three people in the Republic plan to head to Northern Ireland to do their Christmas shopping this year.
