The bodies of seven babies have been found in an apartment in Germany, close to the Czech border, police have revealed today.
Police say that a woman rang the emergency number having discovered the body of one baby at the apartment in the town of Wallenfels.
Upon searching the property, police found more bodies in another room.
Examinations are under way but it will be a lengthy process as the bodies are in poor condition.
A police statement said that no results should be expected before the beginning of next week.
It is not clear how long the bodies had been there for or how the babies died.
Police are waiting to interview the previous occupant of the residence who is said to be a 45 year-old woman.
German media reported that a couple with several children had been living in the property but had recently separated.
