Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority have confirmed an investigation has been launched after an elderly man died following a workplace accident at his home in Co Clare.
The horrifyingly incident happened at approximately 11am on Monday mornings Clomadrum near Mullagh. Gardaí say the man was tragically killed after the arm of a mini-digger collapsed on top of him whilst the he was working beneath it.
It is understood that three units from Kilrush fire brigade along with an ambulance arrived quickly to the scene. However the victim was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
The man’s body has since been taken to University Hospital Limerick where a postmortem examination is expected to take place.
