Gardaí in Co Cork have confirmed that a man aged in his 60s has sadly died after suffering a suspected heart attack whilst swimming off the Kinsale Coast on Monday evening.
It is understood the man got into difficulties whilst swimming off Sandycove Island at approximately 6pm on Monday evening.
However despite the best efforts of by emergency personnel, the man who was transferred to Cork University Hospital by Irish Coast Guard helicopter Rescue 117 died a short time later.
Gardai say an investigation into the incident is currently ongoing.
