Geraldine Clancy, 58, and her daughter Louise, 22, sadly died after their car was involved in a collision with another vehicle on the Fermoy-Ballyduff road yesterday afternoon.
It is understood their car spun out of control after the collision and ended up overturned in a flooded field, where the two women drowned.
The tragic news are even more poignant after it emerged that the husband and father, Noel Clancy, drove his tractor to the crash site with the intention of helping out, not realising who the victims were. It is believed that his other daughter, Fiona, was also with him, but was kept away from the scene.
The driver of the other car involved, a young woman who actually lives near the Clancy family, was not seriously injured but was treated at the scene for deep shock.
Tributes have been pouring in today for the two women who lost their lives.
